Personalization

Some products need a detail from the buyer before you can make or ship them — a name to engrave, a date, a colour choice, or a contact number. SKUvio lets you switch on Etsy’s personalization box so shoppers can type that in at checkout, right from the Configure modal.

Turn on personalization

Tick Personalizable in the modal. When it’s on, your Etsy listing shows a personalization text box at checkout, and the buyer’s message comes through with the order.

Leave it off for products that don’t need any buyer input.

Set your instructions

Use the instructions field to tell buyers exactly what to enter — for example “Enter the name to engrave (max 20 characters)” or “Tell us the date for your event.” Clear instructions cut down on back-and-forth and mistakes.

  • Instructions can be up to 256 characters.
  • Write them in the language your buyers read, and be specific about the format you need.

Required or optional

Use the Required flag to decide whether the buyer must fill in the box before they can check out:

  • Required on — the buyer can’t complete the order without providing the detail. Best when you genuinely can’t fulfil without it.
  • Required off — the box is there, but optional. Good for “add a gift note if you like.”

Limit the length

Set a maximum length for the buyer’s entry, anywhere from 1 to 1,024 characters. Keep it short for something like a name or date, or allow more room for a gift message or special request.

A common use: collecting contact details

Etsy hides buyer phone numbers by default, so the personalization box is often the simplest way to ask a buyer for a phone number or email if you need it for delivery — for example for courier SMS notifications. Just make your instructions clear about what you’re asking for and why.
